Royal Chanderi is a team of fashion and cotton lovers, and we are embracing the culture of Chanderi fabric and the amazing prints that are derived from it.

Our company was built with the vision of creating stylish and sustainable saree collections using the most loved fabric around the world, Chanderi. Not just that, but we brought in traditional craftsmen to our team to explore the design abundance using Chanderi as the foundational fabric.

Chanderi Prints

India is utterly blessed with several weaving techniques and textiles, and one of them is Chanderi. The traditional Chanderi silk saree is one of the most loved handlooms in the country. There are various types of it available at our store, but knowing about how they are made will help you feel closer to the thought of putting them on.

For weaving a Chanderi saree, the cotton will be used as a weft yarn, whereas the silk will be used as the warp yarn. The silk used in the process is so fine that there comes the need for placing trays that are filled with water underneath them to make the gossamer strand.

Depending on the design of the sarees, gold and silk are mixed within the main body of the attire to bring out that mesmerising glam of the Chanderi. To help you better understand the process that Royal Chanderi Saree follows in order to create its collection, here are the steps that we follow:

  • We source the raw material from the most reliable and authentic resources.
  • The material will then be taken for the dyeing process, which takes at least an hour.
  • Warping is the next step in the saree-making process.
  • The warp will then be moved through the reed, which takes around three to four days.
  • Then, the pallav or pallu will be designed, which will take days, depending on the design complexity.

Chanderi Fabric

All of it started back in the Vedic period when the Chanderi fabric originated for the first time. This fabric was discovered by the cousin of Lord Krishna, Shishupal. Following the Indian mythological belief, the Mughal Empire also embraced the beauty of the Chanderi fabric and proposed its use throughout their reign.

Chanderi fabric soon became the popular choice among the Mughal queens and became a symbol of royalty in the empire. The later evolutions to the Chanderi fabric commenced in the 1890s when the weavers of the small town Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh started to replace the fabric’s handspun yarn with that of the mill-made yarn.

Later, in the year 1910, the Chanderi sarees were introduced to the Scindia family, and it was considered the era of golden threads, which promoted the existence of the famous Cotton Muslin saree. Later, in the 1930s, all the weavers in Madhya Pradesh gained knowledge of Japanese silk, and they soon began to switch the existing warps of cotton sarees with that of Japanese silk, which was destined to introduce Chanderi silk in the weaving world.

Soon, it came to the sightings of our visionary founders, and we brought it into our collection. We have the best weavers working with us to give you the Chanderi saree designs of your lifetime. The unique feature that we boast about the Chanderi fabric is its sheerness, which is because our weavers make use of only a single yarn quality. Following that, we also tend to embellish motifs or butties to our Chanderi fabric, which will give the fabric a distinct appearance.
